Piedmont Park Shooting Leaves Woman Dead, Teen Injured

Atlanta authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in Piedmont Park Saturday night that claimed the life of one woman and left a 15-year-old girl injured.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to gunfire reports around 9:03 p.m. Upon arrival, they found two female victims suffering apparent gunshot wounds. One woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the teen was conscious and breathing and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officials clarified that the shooting occurred well after the nearby 404 Day Festival had ended. The festival concluded around 7:45 p.m., more than an hour before the incident, on the opposite side of the park. Police indicated that preliminary evidence points to the violence stemming from an unauthorized gathering near the park’s far west end.

Homicide detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are working to determine what led to the attack and have not released further details about possible suspects.

The incident has heightened concerns about safety in public spaces following large gatherings, and law enforcement continues to urge anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.

Community members have expressed shock and concern, emphasizing the tragic loss and the need for vigilance in the area. Police continue to examine evidence and interview witnesses as the investigation progresses.
